Oath of Office Ceremony welcomes new student body

Newly elected associated student body officers pledged their oaths of offices under clear skies on the fountain stage April 27.

"Student government is appreciative of these individuals who volunteer their time for you," said prior ASG president Calvin Monroe.

Tuna Demirer, Jacinta Chan, Terry Davis and Denny Tedtaotao, with lifted right hands, pledged to uphold the Cosumnes River College Constitution and to represent the students upon being duly elected.

Danny Tedtaotao will be serving as President, Terry Davis as Commissioner of Activities, Tuna Demirer as Commissioner of Legislative Affairs, Jacinta Chan as Commissioner of Public Relations and Jasmin C. Ely as Senator for Business and Family Services.

CRC staff expressed enthusiasm for working under the "I am so excited," said Chris Corona. "I'll get to work very closely with you all. I know you'll have some creative ideas."

Winnie agreed.

"I truly look forward to working with you," Winnie said. She said the students demonstrated leadership skills by getting signatures.

"It'll be exciting to see how we can get other people involved," Winnie added.

All the elected officials won by a majority vote. The overall voter count was 359.

Interim Dean Angelo expressed gratitude for the voters who came out, while expressing hope for greater student involvement in the future. "We wouldn't have the student government without the student voters," Angelo said.

Angelo said these individuals demonstrated recognition of the "sacred connection" voters have with their officials.

"We want to see more voters," Angelo added.

Staff and old officers all congratulated the new student body on their success and expressed optimism for the future.

The celebration was capped off with a rally giving away gift cards to Jamba Juice and Starbucks.
