HIV and AIDS are two of the main rivals of man.
Unfortunately, we have proven to be no competitors.
HIV sets the battlefield, while AIDS fights the battle by weakening our already fragile bones, breaking down our immune systems and exposing us to other diseases.
The sad news is that they might continue to win, because they are more conscious and alert than we are.
Unlike us, HIV and AIDS are not denying our existence.
They are awake and knowledgeable, and that's why they continue to succeed.
What are we doing to fight back?
Judging from our actions and the world wide estimated 33.0 million people who lived with HIV and AIDS in the past year, it appears that we have been donating some boxing gloves, gauzes, double guard mouthpieces and protective gear to aid HIV and AIDS in the fight against us.
In other words, if we were working harder and not making things easier for our rivals, statistics would not be as staggering as they are.
Our first assistance to the virus and disease is our ignorance and refusal to listen and absorb the facts.
Some of us do not believe AIDS exist because we have refused to open our ears to hear reality.
We do not listen to victims of the disease nor involve ourselves in awareness programs.
We do not read anything about the disease, and even if we do, we try to add senselessness to what makes sense.
For example, back in high school, some students said they didn't believe AIDS was anything more than abstinence propoganda.
According to them, AIDS stood for " America 's Idea of Discouraging Sex."
Now, how more ignorant can we get? If AIDS is really "America 's Idea of Discouraging Sex", then what or who is responsible for the illnesses that we get when we contract the disease, AIDS.
Or is it " America 's Idea of Discouraging Sex" that enters our bodies, destroy our red blood cells, and make us vulnerable to other diseases?
The more unfortunate part is that, contrary to what we may wish, ignorance and disbelief does not, and will not, prevent HIV and AIDS from functioning.
In fact, it gives them more power over us.
Just because we do not believe in AIDS does not mean that the disease will spare us if we have unprotected sex with people infected by the virus.
Our other aid to the disease is listening, absorbing the realities but refusing to act the facts.
The rest of us who believe that HIV and AIDS are real and who have familiarized ourselves with the facts, fall short when it comes to applying what we know.
We know that, for instance, having unprotected sex with multiple sexual partners place us at higher risk of getting knocked down by the disease, yet we go about doing so.
We are aware that if we share used needles or unsterilized syringes, we automatically expose ourselves to the virus.
Yet we go about doing so.
Unfortunately for us, these approaches work perfectly in the interest of HIV and AIDS.
In fact, it appears that our ignorance and sluggishness might be sending out the wrong hint to the virus and the disease.
HIV and AIDS might have gotten the wrong impression, thinking that we want them around, because if we didn't, we would not be doing anything to suggest so.
Nevertheless, we still have much room to clear all misconceptions and prove that we too can fight hard.
It is for us to decide if we want to continue aiding them or if we are now ready to fight them away.
For no matter what we do, how we think, or what we believe, AIDS and HIV are always going to be on the alert.
HIV and AIDS are real and dangerous - that's a fact. It's about time that we unwelcome them and protect ourselves-well, that's left with us to decide.
